Experience a change of pace in Historic Boulder City, "The city that built
Hoover Dam." Tucked away between the glitter of Las Vegas and the awesome wonder
of Hoover Dam, you'll find Boulder City; an unexpected oasis of cool grass,
shade trees and open, friendly people.
The historic Boulder Dam Hotel, once a stopping place for the celebrities and
royalty in those early days, now revitalized and home to the Chamber of
Commerce, the Boulder City Arts Council, the Hoover Dam Museum, fine boutiques
and an excellent restaurant.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Boulder City has a
fascinating history as the first "planned community" in America. It was designed
and built to provide shelter to thousands of workers on the Hoover Dam (then
known as The Boulder Canyon Project). Held over from its early beginnings, there
is still no gambling permitted in Boulder City, the only community in Nevada
with that distinction. The well preserved Historic District provides a glimpse
of the 1930's.
Stroll along the picturesque walkways offering unique shops, antique stores, and
quaint restaurants. Our hotels and motels provide convenient access to Lake
Mead, with adequate parking for boats and RV's, in addition to several RV parks.
Boulder City's clean, green parks provide the opportunity for family picnics and
activities and numerous community events.
Also available is an excellent, well-maintained 18-hole golf course. Boulder
City offers a swimming pool, racquetball complex, lighted tennis courts, lush
athletic fields and a BMX bicycle track that give year-round recreational
pleasure. The first city airport in Nevada still operates here to take visitors
on aerial tours of Hoover Dam as well as the Grand Canyon. And for those
daredevils among us, sky diving is also available here.
The construction of Hoover Dam tamed the mighty Colorado River and created Lake
Mead, the world's deepest man-made lake. Just a few minutes away is Lake Mead
National Recreation Area, the gateway to year-round recreation: fishing,
boating, hiking, mountain biking, sight-seeing, and camping. Lake Mead provides
a paddle wheel boat for cruises around the Lake and to Hoover Dam.
The Colorado River provides added recreational pleasures, including Colorado
River raft trips, giving visitors a chance to see flora and fauna (including the
state animal, the Bighorn Sheep) up close and personal. The smooth water
provides lots of relaxation and time for photographs.
